• DECA

DECA is an international student marketing competition that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management in high schools around the globe.  Our  students compete in events that test their real-world skills and knowledge.  DECA is open to any Rockford High School student (grades 9-12) that is looking to prepare for life beyond high school, while having fun! We've seen extraordinary growth over the past few years and are excited about DECA growing into an identity for RHS.

Commitment: The commitment to be in DECA is what you make it. The “season” technically runs from January – April, HOWEVER prior to the January start date, there will be 1-2 meetings per month before or after school. If a student does not advance beyond the District level, they are done in January.

As with most co-curricular activities, students will get out of it what they put into it.  Individual work/preparation will be key if they want to do well in competition. All chapter members want to prepare if they plan on advancing past districts. The past 3 years, we've had multiple students compete at the national level in Anaheim, Atlanta, and Orlando.

Meetings:  We conduct meetings before AND after school to accomodate the busy schedules of our members. Meetings typically start at 7:30a-7:55a and 3:00p-3:30p. Students are able to pick the time that works for them the best and not feel stressed about missing the meetings.

Competitions:  There are only 3 competitions (and that’s only if students keep advancing by placing high enough in their competition.)

    1. Districts:  The District meet is Wednesday, January 29th at the Crossroads Mall in St. Cloud. Students will miss 1 day of school for this meet.

    2. State Career Development Conference:  The State meet is in downtown Minneapolis on March 1st-3rd. Participants only compete at state if they are the top 2-6 in Districts depending on your event.

    3. International Career Development Conference: Hosted in Nashville, TN on April 28th- May 1st. Students would only compete at nationals if they are in the top 6 at State. Many of our students have their sights set on making it to ICDC this year and I can’t wait to see them make it happen!

Participation: Students do not need to be in business classes to participate in DECA. Everyone who is a Rockford High School student is welcome to join DECA, it is a unique experience for every high school student and provides knowledge and learnings that can advance you into whichever career path you choose - even if it is not in business.

    Fees:

    • Students will need to pay their dues, which are $50 per student – students must pay dues in order to compete!

    • Conference fees:

      • Districts: No additional fees for this meet other than food money.

      • State: must pay for meals and possibly lodging.depending on fundraising ability.
