Arts Magnet School
Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School provides students a strong academic core with the opportunity for creative expression, critical thinking, self-confidence, communication skills, appreciation of the arts, and multicultural experiences for all students through the artistic disciplines (dance, drama, music and visual arts). Teaching through the arts helps students experience concepts rather than merely discussing or reading about them. The study of the arts has been linked to students’ increased critical and creative thinking skills, self-esteem, willingness to take risks, and ability to work with others.
Each grade level participates in a special Spotlight on the Arts performance. Classroom teachers and specialists collaborate to connect the academic concepts studied in the classroom, to the arts in annual grade level performances.
Students in grades 2, 3 and 4 have the opportunity to participate in an auditioned National Anthem Team. The National Anthem Team performs at many events including the annual Veteran's Day program and high school games.
Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet Scool staff has been very purposeful in partnering with Arts agencies to provide staff development for the teachers and Artist in Residence opportunities for the students at each grade level.
Students at Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School have been recognized for their many talents in art and music. REAMS has had several Aviation art contest winners since 2001.
Rockford Elementary Arts Magnet School students share their wonderful talents as an entire building each May during the annual Arts and Academics Showcase. The Showcase features an array of student projects, artwork, and live performances throughout the school. Classrooms highlight projects from throughout the year as well as live performances. The REAMS grade level choirs, world drumming ensemble, and piano players are featured in a performance venue. Each child is given the opportunity to feature their creativity in their own special way.
