WIDA English Language Proficiency Assessment

The WIDA  tests of Academic English Proficiency are used by the State of Minnesota and the Rockford School District for determining progress and for determining eligibility.  They are given each March. These tests include  group tests of Listening to classroom instructions, Reading Content Area material, and Writing about Academic subjects.  One part of the test includes asking the child to speak about academic subjects by asking questions about pictures, charts, and diagrams.
WIDA  tests have been developed by the University of Wisconsin.  They are being used by many states in the USA for Acedemic English Language proficiency.
Test results from March are sent home in the Fall of the next school year along with a letter announcing the continuation of ESL classes or congratulating the exit from ESL services.
