Student Meal Distribution March 23-27-- Message from Int Supt Dean 3-20-20

Dear Families,

The health and well-being of our community is one of our top priorities during these challenging times. During this past week, Rockford Area Schools were closed and will remain closed through March 27. As you may know, Governor Tim Walz announced last Sunday that all Minnesota schools to be closed due to the COVID- 19 virus effective Wednesday, March 18 until Friday, March 27, in order to develop distance learning plans.

During this past week, we would like to thank the following area restaurants for offering free lunches to students--Clays Restaurant—Rockford, Great Harvest - Maple Grove, Granite City- Maple Grove, Billy D's Crooked Tavern – Annandale, Thirsty Buffalo Saloon- Buffalo, Bunkers of Course- Buffalo, and The Sushi Box (inside Cub Foods)- Buffalo to name a few.

Additionally, thank you to River Works Food Shelf, who will continue to have options for area families. Check out their website at www.riverworksonline.org for more information.

During our planned Spring Break week, March 23-27, our school district has developed a special daily meal distribution plan that includes a breakfast and lunch for our preK-12 students.  There will be eight pick up locations throughout our school district each day, Monday through Friday. The locations and times include--

  • Mobile Hope Center, Maple Hill Estate, Corcoran from 10 AM to 1 PM
  • Corcoran Ball Fields, Corcoran from 11:30 AM to 1 PM
  • Greenfield City Park, Greenfieldfrom 10 AM to 11:15 AM
  • Rockford High School, Rockford from 11 AM to 1 PM
  • Office Parking Lot, Rockford Riverview Estates, Rockford from 10 AM to 1 PM
  • Tower Terrace Mobile Home Park, Rockford from 10 AM to 11 AM
  • Rockford Mall Parking Lot, Rockford from 11:15 AM to 1 PM
  • Riverside Park, Rockford from 10 AM to 12 Noon 1 PM

Rockford Area Schools’ families may pick up their child’s lunch at the site closest to their homes. Look for a Rockford Area Schools school bus at the distribution site. Keep in mind that these meals are not allergy specific. Social distancing of six feet will be strongly encouraged during food distribution. We ask that one to two individuals come and pick up meals needed for your family. Your family lunch account will not be charged during this week.

After March 30 and beyond, more information will be emailed to you as we await word from the Governor on whether school can continue as usual or will remain closed. Please continue to monitor your email and our website for any further updates.

These are challenging times and the staff at Rockford Area Schools are continuing to keep our student’s health and safety in the forefront. We wish continued health to your families.

Take Care,

Rhonda Dean
