Distribution Times and Other Updates -- Message from Int Supt Dean 4-3-20

Dear Families,

It has been a whirlwind week with the start of distance learning. We understand that this new process for learning has created many more questions than answers. As a staff, we are also learning, adjusting and hopefully improving our plans. We miss our students and strive to offer the best education possible under these trying times. We are hopeful that students would be able to return to the classroom, at least for a short time, to bring closure to the school year. We will continue to be optimistic for the future while plans are being considered that address the realistic conditions all of us are currently facing.

Here are a few updates this week.

Partnership for Wi-Fi for District Families--With our new distance learning for our students, we have partnered with area businesses and homeowners to help provide Wi-Fi to our residents in high-density areas. Hot spots are being planned for singular households without access. Our partner has accessed donors to help with funding for two months of coverage and also helped to pay for the devices. Delivery of those key hot spots should be happening at the end of the week. What a great community to pull together during these trying times to help educate our students!

No School, April 10--In our district, Friday, April 10 (Good Friday) has been designated a holiday with no classes and no staff present. Since it was originally on our district calendar as a day off, we will continue the practice this year, even in these uncertain times. After all, our staff pretty much worked over the entire spring break.

Stay at Home MN--Our state is still under a mandatory stay at home order by the Governor. This means that in order to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus and support the efforts of those who are on the front lines dealing with this serious situation, we must all do our part and remain in our homes whenever possible. Our short-term sacrifices now will help to prevent an even longer shut down later. If you must go out, please be sure to practice safe social distancing.

If you've come into close contact with someone who has COVID-19 but aren't showing symptoms, it's highly recommended that you self-quarantine. This may sound inconvenient, but it's a social responsibility we should all take seriously. (That and making sure you're practicing proper hand hygiene and proper cough etiquette).

I have witnessed the great work by our staff, parents, students, and community members as we deal with the COVID-19 crisis.  I want to especially thank our outstanding teachers and administrators for the great work they are doing to support our students. In addition, I want to recognize the heroic effort of our Food Service staff, and Transportation staff for the distribution of hundreds of meals over the past few weeks. We are a strong and resourceful community and I am so very proud to see how we have come together to support each other through this very difficult time.

Please be safe and stay healthy,

Rhonda Dean
